Southwest Airlines sale offers tickets as low as $59

Forget fruitcakes and candy canes. Use airline tickets as stocking stuffers instead. That seems to be the mind-set over at Southwest Airlines, which announced a nationwide fare sale Tuesday that Includes one-way tickets out of Raleigh-Durham International Airport for as low as $59. Southwest (NYSE: LUV) said the fares are available with a 14-day advance purchase from Tuesday through Dec. 13, 2010, and are good for travel between Jan. 4, 2011, and March 9, 2011.

The special fares out of RDU include one-way flights for $59 from RDU to Baltimore, Boston and Philadelphia. Other deals out of RDU include the following one-way fares:

• $62 to Pittsburgh
• $80 to Fort Lauderdale
• $86 to Cleveland
• $99 to Chicago
• $99 to Orlando
• $128 to Phoenix
• $154 to San Jose
• $159 to Portland
