NHC Building Permits Increase In December

Builders across New Hanover County continued to maintain the construction momentum last month, according to a recently released report.

The New Hanover County Development Services Center issued 1,554 building permits for various projects in December, valued at a total of $68.2 million, according to the report issued last week. That was a 66 percent spike in monetary amount from the $41 million represented by 1,403 permits in December 2012, according to the division’s latest construction activity report.

Leading new permit activity in New Hanover County was the number of new single-family permits issued in December.

According to the report, 78 new single-family homes were permitted in the county – a 4 percent increase from December 2012, when the county permitted 75 new single-family homes.

Meanwhile, new multifamily construction accounted for nearly half of the county’s new construction value in December.

With four multifamily projects vetted through the permitting process for construction last month, builders logged $31.8 million in estimated construction investment, the report stated. There was no multifamily activity recorded in December 2012.
